Auto insurance in Miami

Required

Florida requires $10,000 of personal injury protection and $10,000 of property damage liability.

That is the legal minimum to register a car here. PIP pays part of your own medical bills after a crash no matter who caused it, which is why Florida is called a no-fault state. You generally need to get medical care within 14 days of the accident for PIP to pay.

The gap

The minimum does not cover injuries you cause to other people.

Bodily injury liability isn’t required for most Florida drivers, but without it you can be personally responsible if someone else is hurt. We show you what it costs to add it at different limits.

Uninsured

Uninsured motorist coverage protects you from drivers who carry too little.

Florida insurers have to offer it, and you have to reject it in writing if you don’t want it. Collision and comprehensive, which pay for damage to your own car, are optional too, unless your lender or lease requires them.

Compared

We quote your car with more than one insurance company.

Rates for the same driver and the same car can vary widely by carrier. We compare deductibles, limits and discounts side by side and explain the trade-offs before you decide.

What we need for an auto quote

A quote goes quickly when you have the basics at hand. If you already have a policy, bring the declarations page: it shows your current limits and price, so we can compare like for like.

  • Driver’s license for each driver in the household
  • VIN, or the year, make and model of each car
  • Your current declarations page, if you have one
  • The address where the car is parked overnight
  • Any tickets or accidents in the last few years

Common questions

Is Florida a no-fault state?

Yes. Your own personal injury protection (PIP) pays part of your medical bills and lost wages after a crash, regardless of who caused it, up to your PIP limit.

Do I need bodily injury liability?

Most Florida drivers aren’t required to carry it, but after certain violations, such as a DUI conviction, the state can require higher liability coverage. Even when it isn’t required, it protects your savings if you injure someone.

My teenager is starting to drive. What should I do?

Tell us before they drive. Adding a driver changes the price, and carriers price young drivers very differently, so it is a good moment to compare.

Can I insure my home and car together?

Many carriers offer a discount when home and auto are with the same company. We check whether bundling actually lowers your total before recommending it.
