Florida requires workers’ compensation for most businesses with employees.
Construction businesses need it from the first employee, and corporate officers count as employees unless they file an exemption. Most other businesses need it at four employees, part-time included. Agricultural employers need it at six regular or twelve seasonal workers.
Payroll
Your workers’ comp premium is built on your payroll.
Carriers price it by job classification and payroll, then audit the real numbers after the policy year. If we also run your payroll, we can keep the classifications and estimates accurate, so the audit doesn’t bring a surprise bill.
Liability
General liability covers claims that your business hurt someone or damaged their property.
Landlords, clients and general contractors often ask for a certificate of insurance before you can start. A business owner’s policy (BOP) combines liability and property coverage for many small businesses in one package.
Compared
We quote your business with more than one carrier.
We look at what your business does, what it owns and how many people you employ, then put the options side by side: limits, deductibles, exclusions and price.
What we need for a business quote
If we already keep your books or run your payroll, most of this is in our files. That is one of the reasons insurance and accounting work well together.
An LLC can protect your personal assets from business debts, but it doesn’t pay claims. If you sign a lease, hire people or work at clients’ sites, you will likely need coverage from day one. We can form the company and quote the coverage together.
What is a workers’ comp audit?
After the policy year, the carrier compares the payroll you estimated with your actual payroll and adjusts the premium up or down. Accurate payroll records make the audit routine.
Can I be exempt from workers’ comp as an owner?
Some corporate officers can elect an exemption through the Florida Division of Workers’ Compensation. The rules are stricter in construction. We check whether you qualify before you buy a policy.
A client asked for a certificate of insurance. Can you help?
Yes. Once your policy is active, tell us who needs to be listed and we help you request the certificate from your insurance company.
